This Is Where My Time Goes
Eheh, I’ve been incredibly lame with my updates here, or rather lack thereof. Almost two weeks have passed since my last update. I haven’t been especially busy - in fact, I haven’t had anything to do at all. Which is why my poor little site went update-less for nearly two weeks: because nothing is happening. If anything, I’ve been working on my upcoming character website that I will be sharing with Crystal and preparing myself for rewriting all their profiles, and there are at least sixteen of them. I’ve spent a lot of time drawing pictures of them in my personal style to illustrate their appearances, but none of them are refined enough to show here yet.
I have also been very into bead creatures lately. Something inside me must have been triggered after I made mom’s Mother’s Day gift, because I’ve been making bead creatures. The cool thing is that none of them follow a pattern given in the instruction pamphlets that I have from my ancient bead kits. Instead they are my own creations. I’ve scanned them, though they’re resized to load faster. They are all at least two inches in height:
- A giant squid was a must. I got the inspiration while I was watching “The Sphere.” His legs were really difficult, and I couldn’t supply him with feeding tentacles or a beak so he will surely starve to death. XD I also made his eye out of glow in the dark beads, so he can see in the darkness just like real giant squid.
- After I finished the squid, a mushroom was an absolute must. A giant squid is nothing without a villainous purple mushroom to harass it, you see. The mushroom is probably the easiest one I’ve done so far. I made it specially for my shroom fiend and friend, Crystal.
- One day while I was watching Spongebob, I had the urge to make one of the characters. I wanted to do Squidward, but I don’t think I have enough blue green beads for his body. So I made Plankton instead, making him taller just as he wanted.
The hilarious thing is that I used rainbow string. Because… “‘F’ is for fire that burns down the whole town, ‘U’’s for uranium, BOMBS! ‘N’ is for no survivors…!” Hehe!! - Lastly is yet another gift, this time for Leon. He originally wanted a spider, but that was boring because I already knew how to make one. I offered a turtle instead, to which he agreed, but it wasn’t very motivating because I knew how to make one of those already as well. So yesterday while I was looking up Great White shark stories… Inspiration struck. And now a Great White is a part of my bead family. The shark is quite large. I’m not positively sure, but I think it may extend further than the giant squid. I haven’t compared them, though.
And that’s it for now. I’ll probably be making more bead creatures as the ideas pop into my head, but we’ll see.
Mother’s Day Stuff
I hate to say it, but usually my mother’s day gifts aren’t that awesome. Basically a drawing of whatever pops into my head first and then a “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!” near my signature somewhere. I think mom grew bored of those gifts, considering that when I asked her if she was excited she just looked at me with a tired expression and said, “Why would I be excited?”
And at first that kind of disappointed me, because the thought was still there and it seemed like the hours I spend on my gifts were a waste. Especially on this year’s, because I’ve been very excited to give her my gift. It took a lot of thought, and it was Crystal who proposed an idea inspired me to do what I did for my mom this year. I went through all of my bead kits that were left over from my previous creations and found that I had the materials to make her a gecko keychain. And while this may not sound thoughtful now what with the clear instructions in the guides, it is when your mother is obsessed with leopard geckos, not to mention has one of her very own. Plus it was custom made - I wanted to make it extra tiny and extra cute, so I destroyed an old headband and an old necklace that I never wore for their tiny beads and took care in randomizing the black beads’ locations. The finished product:

It’s smaller than my thumb. I spent several hours forcing thread through those tiny beads, but it was worth it when I presented it to her in the form of a card with stick figures on the front. It said, “Remember when I asked you if you were excited about Mother’s Day and you were all, ‘Why would I be excited?’” And then on the inside I taped the gecko keychain underneath “I think this is a pretty good reason.” She liked it, and I hope she uses it with her car keys. Or for something, anyway. Because this year I made a gift that has a bit more of a use, albeit a small one.
Things To Do Before I Kick The Bucket
I’m generally not afraid of death itself. I’m at peace with the fact that one day I won’t be here and eventually I will be forgotten, I will be nonexistent. According to Harry Potter, that makes me a master of death. If anything, I’m afraid that I will die too young and miss out on a whole bunch of stuff. Which would be sad. So, my list:
- Visit every continent in the world. Yes, that does include Antarctica.
- Go underwater in a submarine and see a giant squid, preferably not to be eaten shortly afterwards.
- Participate in karaoke, no matter how terrible my singing voice actually is.
- Learn how to salsa dance (or something similar).
- Be in an action movie, even if it is completely by accident and I have no idea I’m being filmed at the time.
- Track down and devour a gelato thing in Italy.
- Visit Vlad the Impaler’s castle and spend the night there, though perhaps not alone.
- Meet all my online pals in real life. Oh yes, I mean that. You people will meet me whether you want to or not! :p
- Visit Japan and indulge myself in the culture.
- Learn two more languages.
- Figure out the meaning of life and then refuse to tell anyone what it is.
- Defeat the mushrooms.
- Go vegetarian for the animals, for my health and for the exotic food.
Purchase a gothic lolita dressDesign my own gothic lolita dresses.- Find my art style, because I’m still not entirely sure I’ve found my very own.
- Catch all the frickin’ Pokémon. XD
I’m sure there’s more. In fact I’m positive there’s more. But more importantly: what are yours?
Also, I’ve been designing a new look for dark-rose.org. Well, more of a new theme, since the current one will still be selectable. Please check out the dew theme and tell me what you think. There are still a lot of things I’ll be changing around since I don’t like it 100% yet, but I’d still love opinions. The navigation in particular bothers me. Any suggestions?
